EMC ditches Atmos Online
By Jennifer Scott,
EMC is calling time on its cloud storage offering, Atmos Online.
The storage giant is pulling support for the service, which is set to be suspended from this week, and users are being directed to a list of its partners in a clear warning to migrate their data.
A blog post from the EMC Cloud Infrastructure Services Team told customers: “We are no longer planning to support production usage of Atmos Online.”
It continued: “Going forward, Atmos Online will remain available strictly as a development environment to foster adoption of Atmos technology and Atmos cloud services offered by our continuously expanding range of service provider partners who offer production services.”
From now on there will be no paid subscriptions available and EMC has said no existing accounts will be billed for past or future usage.
The Atmos Online offering was only launched in May last year during EMC World Orlando.
Rumblings on the internet claimed the move came from EMC competing too heavily with its partners and causing waves, but the company has not confirmed this as a reason.
