AMD suffers with Q2 results
By Jennifer Scott,
AMD has reported its second quarter results, announcing revenues of $1.65 billion and a net loss of $43 million (£28 million) operating income for the quarter ending 26 June.
AMD can take some solace in the fact the loss was smaller than the $330 million it dropped in the same quarter last year, but compared to the $257 million profit of the last quarter it was quite a blow.
Dirk Meyer, president and chief executive (CEO) of AMD, stayed positive about the results and focused on the areas the company had performed well.
"Robust demand for our latest mobile platforms and solid execution drove record second quarter revenue and a healthy gross margin," he said.
"Our unmatched combination of microprocessor and graphics capabilities resulted in customers launching a record number of new mobile and desktop platforms. We added Sony as a microprocessor customer and continue to see our existing customers expand their AMD-based platform offerings."
These results are a stark contrast form AMD’s rival, Intel, which earlier this week claimed to have celebrated its best quarter ever.
For Intel, earnings rose by 34 per cent quarter on quarter to $10.8 billion, beating both analyst and company’s own expectations.
