The trials and tribulations of social networking
By Jennifer Scott,
Knowledge is power
We have established there is risk out there but there are also ways to tackle these problems head on whilst still being able to reap the benefits that social networking can offer.
Firstly make sure your employees are trained in how to use social networking for the better. The Government and even the BBC have written and distributed social networking guides. Although some may see it as a waste of money, it may save you a lot of embarrassment in the long run.
Also be aware, and perhaps limit, who you allow to run your social networking for you. You may not have to be as extreme as Fabio Capello and ban all your team mates from it in case they get distracted, but be in the know about who is responsible and how they handle it.
Finally, as with any other part of IT in you business, security is paramount.
Make sure passwords aren’t too simple and are kept safe and ensure your staff are trained to be aware of their own privacy when it comes to login details.
