Office for Mac 2011 set for October launch
By Tom Brewster,
Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 will be released at the end of October in a variety of packages.
Two editions will be available at retail outlets – Office for Mac Home and Student 2011, and Office for Mac Home and Business 2011.
Both contain Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Messenger for Mac, while the latter has Outlook as well, which has replaced Entourage as Office’s email client.
“We develop Office for Mac to give you the tools to create great-looking and compatible documents — with options to pick the right edition for your Mac needs,” said Eric Wilfrid, general manager at Microsoft’s Macintosh Business Unit.
The Home and Student version will start at £89.99 for a single install, with a Family Pack containing thee installs priced at £109.99. Its more expensive counterpart starts at £189.99 for a single install and £239.99 for the double install package.
Microsoft Office for Mac Academic 2011 will also be launched from late October and is the cheapest of the three, but will only be available at authorised academic stores or directly from Microsoft.
Anyone who buys Office 2008 from now until 30 November will qualify for a free upgrade to the 2011 version, but users will need to register online to do so.
