Vodafone named Britain's most valuable brand
By Jennifer Scott,
Vodafone has come out on top of an annual list of Britain’s most valuable brands.
The Brand Finance list of 50 was headed up by the mobile provider, which had a value of £17.93 billion, up from £17.03 billion last year.
However, despite the list being about valuable British brands, Vodafone’s success wasn’t all about its performance at home.
Chief executive (CEO) and founder of Brand Finance, David Haigh, told Marketing Week: “Vodafone in particular has done very well this year. But it isn’t necessarily because of its performance in the UK but because of its performance globally.”
Other successful technology companies, mostly in the telecoms field, managed to secure a place in the top 50 as well.
Orange – which is now French owned – dropped one place, as well as £0.61 billion, to fourth, with a current price tag of £11.35 billion.
However, O2 moved up four places to number 16 with a value of £3.78 billion – up from £2.91 billion last year.
BT managed to sneak up a spot as well to 10th place with a value of £5.37 billion, whereas its rivals Virgin and Sky only achieved 25th and 27th place respectively.
