Maritz: Innovation not coming from Microsoft
By Jennifer Scott,
New, often open source-based, companies are the ones making waves in the technology world, taking away from the older, traditional giants of the software and application space.
This was the claim made by Paul Maritz, chief executive (CEO) of VMware, during a question and answer session with journalists at VMworld 2010.
When asked whether his company was against Microsoft, Maritz said: “We are not trying to create an anti-Microsoft world here, it is not a conspiracy that we have pulled up.”
However, the CEO claimed it wasn't the place for innovation like it used to be.
“All these other new techniques are evolving in the industry [and] the developers are going to where the innovation is,” he said. “We are trying to take on the forces that are bigger than ourselves in the industry and align with it.”
Martiz said there was a need to “build bridges” and ensure interoperability in the software and applications market, but his company was focused on “tapping the sources of new innovation,” which were not coming from inside the Redmond-based business.
“A lot of the interesting stuff in the world now is no longer in the realms of traditional vendors,” he concluded.
