Skype offers free Wi-Fi for ‘Internet Week Europe’
By Jennifer Scott,
Skype is leaping onto the latest awareness week bandwagon by offering the UK free Wi-Fi for the next five days.
It is providing the service as part of the UK’s first “Internet Week Europe,” a festival designed to raise the profile of digital industries this side of the Atlantic.
The festival, which starts today and runs until 12 November, will feature a number of events across London, hosted by the likes of Google, Yahoo and the BBC.
It was inspired by a festival that begun in New York two years ago and is hoping to attract thousands of participants for over 100 events, ranging from heated debates to developer contests.
To take advantage of Skype’s participation over the next week, users will have to locate a Skype Access compatible hotspot and have the latest version of Skype’s software.
To find out more about the events being put on across the week, check out the calendar on the Internet Week Europe website.
