iPad adoption surges in the financial services industry
By Alan Lu,
The iPad is increasingly being adopted by enterprises, according to a report from software developer Good Technology.
Good Technology has released an iPad app that gives users access to Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino servers, which, according to Good, has been bought by 4,000 businesses. The iPad supports Exchange, but not Domino servers out of the box, and doesn't have certain features, such as accepting and rejecting meeting invitations, that are supported in Good's app.
According to John Herrema, Good's senior vice president of corporate strategy, the company's survey of who was using the app revealed that "the financial services sector dominated, accounting for 36 per cent of Good's iPad activations to date. The technology sector came in second at 11 per cent, followed closely by healthcare at 10 per cent. We believe these industries are embracing the iPad because its unique design makes it easier to perform time-sensitive, mission-critical tasks."
Although Good's survey only covers the customers of one particular app, the data is still interesting, revealing a surprisingly rapid uptake of the iPad among enterprises. It's especially surprising given that Apple's tablet has only been available in the UK since May and was in very limited supply for several weeks following its launch.
