Motorola launches tablet and smartphone at CES

Motorola Xoom

Motorola has confirmed it will be bringing a new tablet device, along with another smartphone, to the market in 2011.

The company made the announcement during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) being held out in Las Vegas this week.

The tablet, named the Motorola Zoom, will run on the new Android 3.0 operating system designed specifically for tablets, according to a video leak. It will measure 10.1in and feature a 1280 by 800 resolution screen.

Inside, the Xoom will run a dual core Nvidia Tegra processor, enabling 1080p quality HD video, and will come with 32GB memory, along with support for an SD card. It also features two cameras - a five megapixel rear facing and two megapixel forward facing - for video calling.

Motorola also announced the ATRIX 4G smartphone, which was confirmed by the company to be coming to UK shores later in the year on Orange.

The handset with run on the 1GHz Tegra 2 dual core processor with 1GB RAM and running on Android version 2.2 mobile OS. It also features both front and rear facing cameras and up to 48GB of storage.

The main selling point of the new device, however, is the ability to connect it via a dock to your laptop to show everything on the mobile on a larger screen and with keyboard capabilities.

Release dates for the two devices have yet to be revealed for the UK.

Yesterday, Motorola's plans to split into two seperate companies - Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions - became a reality.
