VMware launches Go Pro for SMBs
By Tom Brewster,
VMware has bolstered its offerings for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) by launching a cloud service for IT infrastructure management.
VMware Go Pro has been made available by subscription for $29.95 (£18.83) per admin, per month and helps users through the installation stage of the vSphere Hypervisor.
Users can manage both virtual and physical infrastructures via a single web browser interface.
“With VMware Go Pro, we will bring ease-of-use to IT infrastructure management for SMBs with affordable patch management, help desk, hardware asset management and software license management,” said Manoj Jayadevan, director of emerging business and products at VMware.
The product has come out of an extended partnership with Shavlik Technologies and includes the firm’s patch management technology specifically-designed for SMBs.
"We are excited to extend our existing partnership with VMware, helping customers simplify their IT management," said Mark Shavlik, president and chief executive of Shavlik Technologies.
"VMware Go Pro leverages our SaaS solutions to enable customers to break down barriers they may face when adopting complex technologies."
The cloud-based technology also scans physical and virtual machines for software titles so administrators can stay on top of deployments.
Users can check up on the configuration, cost and service history of their various machines.
This week saw VMware virtualisation rival Citrix post some positive results, with revenues up 17 per cent year-on-year.
