Energy monitoring moves from home to office
By Jennifer Scott,
Calculating gas and electricity consumption has become common place in UK homes but it now looks set to become a feature of business life too.
IT consultancy Intergence Systems and Green Energy Options (GEO) have formed a partnership to create an energy monitoring product suitable for the corporate world.
In addition to boosting the two firms' bank balances, the innovation - which will be available in May - should help businesses reduce costs and do their bit for the environment.
“Even the largest organisations fail to monitor their energy consumption,” said Simon Anderson, chief operating officer at GEO.
“If you can’t see it, you can’t manage it. No organisation, large or small, will be able to reduce their energy bill or carbon footprint without first knowing their energy consumption profile.”
With the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) coming into force in 2012, Peter Job, chief executive of Intergence, said there had “never been a more crucial time” to cut energy consumption and carbon emissions.
“There are nearly 3,000 companies in the UK that will face a carbon tax in 2012 under the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme and businesses need to act now if they are to participate in our low carbon economy,” he said.
