Intel Capital today announced a $20 million (£12.2 million) investment in education software company Kno. Both companies will now collaborate in their push for e-learning worldwide, a sector in which Kno is a leading company.

Founded in 2009 and based in Santa Clara, California, Kno defines itself as an education software company on a mission to make learning engaging, effective, and social for students. Kno produces touch-based applications that Intel is now expecting to use for its educational platforms.

Arvind Sodhani, president of Intel Capital and Intel executive vice president, considered the investment to be a really positive one, especially given the rapid move towards e-learning – now the choice for 1.4 billion students worldwide.

Sodhani highlighted the importance of the two-panel touchscreen tablet that Kno recently announced it will be producing soon.

"Kno's purpose-built education tablet, along with its unique software solution, delivers a learning experience that directly supports Intel's 1:1 eLearning vision," Sodhani said.

The investment made by Intel Capital comes as part of a larger venture, in which Intel has teamed up with Andreessen Horowitz, Advance Publications, First Round Capital, FLOODGATE and SV Angels to add up to a total $30 million investment.

IT PRO contacted Intel to find out how big a share of Kno it had acquired, but it hadn’t returned our request at the time of publication.
