Relief for Lotus users as CIMtrek and CTS sign Google deal

The world's 180 million IBM Lotus users will be able to migrate to Google Cloud thanks to two UK firms.

By Dan Hatch, 16 May 2011 at 09:42

Business deal

Millions of Lotus Notes users can breathe a sigh of relief as two UK companies have just inked a deal that will edge them nearer to the world of cloud computing.

CIMtrek and Cloud Technology Solutions (CTS) have teamed up to enhance the transition process for IBM Lotus to Google Cloud.

The partnership means the companies will be able to provide the tools necessary to migrate legacy applications to cloud platforms and, potentially, deliver an easy and cost-effective way of migrating, testing and supporting legacy business processes on secure cloud infrastructure.

CIMtrek was founded by industry veteran Jon Pyke who said with more than 180 million Lotus users in the world, there was "a lot of pent-up demand for 21st century technology". CTS is a Google Enterprise Partner.

"Notes has served its customers well with its collaboration and application building capabilities but it's heavy-duty in terms of support and cost when compared to the new web-based computing paradigm," Pyke added.

CTS chief executive Steve Kaye said his company's migration and, in particular, its GroupWise expertise, enable it to customise and automate the process of getting GroupWise users onto the cloud. The aim is now to do the same for Lotus users, he added.

"Yes, today we can migrate Lotus mail, calendars and contacts but that's only part of the story for IBM Lotus users," he said. "The CIMtrek-preferred Google Migration partnership now enables us to address customised applications as well. Some of these applications and processes are over 10 years old. They can't be ignored."

Kaye added: "In order to assess the problem at each site, we need the analytical power of CIMtrek and the easy and cost-effective way of migrating, testing and supporting the same processes on a massive, secure, cloud infrastructure."

Why is this not in the Classified Section?

Did Dan Hatch do any objective reporting on this article at all or did he just regurgitate a Press Release?
"Millions of Lotus Notes Users can breathe a sigh or relief" - why? I have not been worrying about moving my data to the Cloud and if I was I would move it using a Lotus Cloud offering not Google.
"...a lot of pent up demand for 21st Century technology" - give me a break. Using Lotus Notes 8.5.x we *are* using 21st Century Technology. We can access it using a Desktop Client, Mobile Devices, or a browser in our offices or on the Cloud.
Dan, the next time you want to regurgitate a Press release (cos having looked at the CIMTrek website that is exactly what you have done) and present it as news at least try and find out what the facts are.

Google Cloud is like Toy compair to lotus notes

We are a web-based vacation tracking software with more than 55 000 client worldwide. We use lotus notes 8.5 for all our SAS application on the cloud. We survey our client every 4 months to make sure they are happy and satisfy. We have satisfaction rate of 74% with lotus notes 8.5.

Recently we try to migrate our software to google cloud. After talking to few different vendors and different consulting company. We realized we are comparing KIA car (google cloud) with Lamborghini (Lotus Notes 8.5 on the cloud). There is no way, not even close if google API could offer 30% of the functionality that Lotus Notes 8.5 could offer. The speed, multi level of language, workflow, encryption, development speed, flexibility are some of the example that lotus notes are better.

We even paid 50K for another consulting company to evaluate moving our software to sharepoint. Unfortunately we realized it will cost us 3 times more to develop and maintain the sharepoint software.

Anyway, if you want a good vacation tracking software (PTO) to track your absentee, please contact us. www.CommonOffice.biz

Misleading

This was a very confused interview a partner relationship is different from a service provider which is different from a purchase from a vendor.Clearly this is like a red faced salesman I once met who still believes a customer is on the same level as a strategic outsoucer or service provider...never ask a salesman a straight question you will be disappointed with the ansawer!!! nil points for this podcast!
