HP unveils AMD Llano powered laptops
By Tom Brewster,
HP has uncloaked four new laptops featuring AMD’s first mainstream accelerated processing units (APUs).
The AMD A-series chips, also known under the codename Llano, combine an x86 CPU with a GPU on one processor, just as Intel’s Sandy Bridge products do.
HP has announced two Pavilion notebooks and two ProBooks for release in the UK, all of which are powered by AMD Fusion APUs.
“HP and AMD’s relationship continues to evolve as we collaboratively make strides to benefit customers through outstanding technology innovation and improved performance,” said Leslie Sobon, corporate vice president for worldwide marketing at AMD.
The Pavilion dv6 and dv7 models are more entertainment focused, but the ProBook 6465b and 4535s models pack some business punch, HP said.
In particular, AMD VISION Pro Technology and discrete-class AMD Radeon Dual Graphics on the ProBook 4535s and UMA graphics on the ProBook 6465b help power multitasking, according to HP.
For those workers on the move, the AMD Turbo Core Technology is designed to balance performance and battery life, whilst AMD AllDay Power allows for extended runtime, HP said.
The HP ProBook 6465b will start at £490 excluding VAT. It is expected to be available on 27 June.
The 4535s will start at £375 excluding VAT. It has been scheduled for a mid-August release.
Last week, HP announced its TouchPad will be released in July.
