PlayBook

The BlackBerry PlayBook has gone on sale in the UK today at Selfridges department store in London, ahead of its general release tomorrow.

The device comes in three different capacities with varying price tags - £399 for the 16GB version, £479 for the 32GB and £559 for the 64GB.

The PlayBook has a seven inch screen, weighs 425g and features dual cameras. It also comes with 1GB of RAM, a 1GHz dual-core processor and 16GB of storage for apps.

RIM’s first tablet to sell on UK shores has received mixed reviews, however. In our look at the device, the PlayBook received a solid four stars out of six.

Just before it launched in the US in April, the PlayBook received a cold reception, largely thanks to its need for a BlackBerry phone to run secure email.

RIM will be going up against some stiff competition in the tablet space, with everyone looking at toppling the current dominating force – the Apple iPad.

HP announced its tablet – the TouchPad – would reach UK shores by mid/early July, with a US release penciled in for 1 July.

Read on for IT Pro’s rundown of the 10 best business and productivity applications for RIM’s debut QNX-powered BlackBerry PlayBook.
