BT has announced a partnership with Heineken to bring free Wi-Fi to almost 100 pubs across London.

The telecoms giant also revealed plans to extend the free wireless services to a further 200 pubs across the UK by the end of 2012.

The move will see The Independent’s sister paper, i, create exclusive content for the Heineken Hub – a web area for those who log into the free Wi-Fi.

Users will enjoy “location-specific content including the best stories from news, views, features, business, culture and sports,” BT said.

Access to the Wi-Fi is only free for BT broadband customers.

“The partnership with BT reinforces the brand’s reputation as a leading player in the development of technology,” said Rick Lawrence, marketing manager at Heineken UK.

“The Wi-Fi initiative will provide excellent exposure for Heineken among its key target audience and build greater affinity between the brand and its consumers.”

BT has been doing plenty of work to expand its hotspot base in the UK. The telecoms firm also announced Wi-Fi access at John Lennon Liverpool, Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield and Teesside regional airports.

There are now more than three million BT hotspots across the UK, with over 200,000 added in the last three months alone.

Rival Virgin is currently in talks to rollout free Wi-Fi for significant chunks of London.
