HP beefs up cloud consultancy services

HP today continued its transition to become a services-focused firm with the announcement of new Technology Consulting Services for prospective cloud customers.

The new offerings will see HP advise users on data centre strategy, operations and continuity, which it claims will speed up the implementation of cloud by 40 per cent – a figure it came to by comparing competitor services.

Legacy data centres need a critical transformation to prepare for cloud computing.

The strategy segment of the consulting claims to contribute to this speed increase by enabling customers to plan design and build at the same time, whilst operations focuses on cutting down lifetime data centre costs by up to 37 per cent.

The continuity piece of the puzzle is more of a future gazing service that hopes to predict when things will go wrong in the data centre, meaning the business is prepared in advance to tackle data centre issues head on.

“Legacy data centres need a critical transformation to prepare for cloud computing,” read a statement from HP.

“They must be architected with shorter planning cycles to deliver services instantly, while optimising operations and improving reliability of those services. This requires better alignment, communications and planning across the organisation.”

“HP services address data centre strategy, operations and continuity with the expertise, guidance and proven methodologies clients need to succeed.”

In addition, HP has updated its CloudSystem platform for simplifying building and managing cloud environments.

With HP CloudSystem Financing, customers are offered a variety of plans to pay for the upgrades, making the transition less about capital expenditure – as the cloud should be.

HP AllianceONE resource centre is a “quick-start toolkit” available to either independent software vendors or service providers to give them an easy way to showcase their technologies in the cloud.

“Clients want our help in speeding their transition to cloud computing with proven methodologies and solutions based on HP Converged Infrastructure so they can increase innovation in their markets and better serve their customers,” said Dave Donatelli, executive vice president and general manager of enterprise servers, storage, networking and technology services at HP.

“Our new offerings clearly reflect the best of HP’s skills and technology in driving this evolution for clients, while reducing complexity, costs and risk.”
