Google and Samsung to launch Nexus Prime tomorrow?
By Eva Martin,
Samsung and Google are expected to unveil the new Nexus Prime phone in Hong Kong late Wednesday night.
The launch event was scheduled for last week, but out of respect for the passing of Steve Jobs, was postponed.
As a flagship Google device, this Samsung smartphone is expected to be the first to run the new version of Android's operating system, codenamed "Ice Cream Sandwich," but the third made by a manufacturer in direct collaboration with Google.
Previously, Google released the Nexus by HTC and the Nexus S produced by Samsung.
Ice Cream Sandwich is version 4.0 of Android, intended to incorporate the 2.0 branch for mobile phones and the 3.0 branch for tablets. This offering will make it possible for developers to target screens of all sizes in one go, rather than creating bespoke apps.
Since Ice Cream Sandwich is the first to run on both phones and tablets, hopes run high it will encourage app developers to move to Google's platform from Apple's iOS.
The phone is expected to have a high-definition display at 720p, as well as feature a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and a screen size of up to 4.6 inches.
The device is expected in the UK late this month or early November, just in time for the holiday season.
