In celebration of the start of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Government today announced initiatives to provide youngsters ages 11-19 with advice to gain their first experiences of enterprise.

For support, Government is enhancing online resources for teachers at the Enterprise Village website and promoting 2,500 enterprise champions through the Inspiring the Future site.

The latter site recruits people from all professions to volunteer in educational settings while providing mentoring and work experience.

We know that events like Global Entrepreneurship Week can transform people’s appetite for enterprise.

"Up and down the country, dynamic, innovative entrepreneurs are creating jobs and driving sustainable economic growth. It is vital that we do all we can to help them realise their ambitions and transform the economies of their communities," said business and enterprise minister Mark Prisk.

"We know that events like Global Entrepreneurship Week can transform people’s appetite for enterprise."

Two new services were also launched today: My New Business, providing businesses with support and guidance upon start-up, and the Growth and Improvement Service, designed to provide information and first-hand support for businesses following their teething stages.

“We want to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs which will help to connect people, share ideas and help people develop the knowledge and confidence they need to pursue their dreams," Prisk added.

Around 1,800 events will be held this week as part of Britain's contribution to Global Entrepreneurship Week, in which 40,000 events are taking place in over 104 countries.

Last week, Prime Minister David Cameron visited Tech City, learning about the entrepreneurs setting up shop in the area. Cameron and his Government are betting on tech to be an important area for burgeoning businesses in the UK.
