CA World 2011: Cloud will bridge gap between tech supply and business demand
By Maggie Holland,
Cloud computing will be the technology model that enables IT departments to bridge the gap between what their organisation demands of them and what they can actually deliver.
So claimed David Dobson, CA Technologies' executive vice president and group executive of its customer solutions group, during his keynote speech at the CA World conference in Las Vegas.
Describing what he said was the "new normal" for CIOs and other decision makers, Dobson highlighted the ever-growing gap between business demand and IT supply.
This is an amazing time to be part of the IT industry. Our company has never been stronger and our commitment to customers and partners has never been greater.
"The gap between the demand your business has put on your IT teams and your ability to close that gap [has never been bigger]. This is not a new problem," he said, adding it was no longer sustainable to continue in the same way.
"The cloud represents an incredibly transformational opportunity to close that gap."
Legacy technology won't be ripped and replaced wholesale for the cloud, however, Dobson added.
CA Technologies will be unveiling a number of new products over the coming days, Dobson promised.
The company has invested some $3 billion in recent years to develop solutions that meet business demands, according to Dobson.
"This is an amazing time to be part of the IT industry. Our company has never been stronger and our commitment to customers and partners has never been greater," he said.
He also used his keynote speech to thank customers for spending their money with CA Technologies. "You have choices every day and every year and we are grateful you have chosen to trust many of your resources to use," he said. "We will continue to work to earn that trust."
In a dig at competitors, Dobson said that only 50 per cent of customers have truly utilised modern automation tools. "I can tell you they can't be our customers. They must be everybody else's customers," he said.
"We will continue to leverage our 35-year history [to deliver] best of class products to help you rationalise and optimise your environments."
