Q&A: Raj Samani, CTO McAfee
By Maggie Holland,
As part of our leadership series, IT Pro spoke to Raj Samani, CTO of security giant McAfee.
Describe your role in three words.
Technical vision and strategy
How did you get to where you are today/into IT/business?
The foundation was built through technical roles, but I then did well over a decade in consulting. This gave me the visibility of the challenges facing organisations across multiple sectors and geographies.
The mistake was a valuable lesson and therefore not something I would avoid if given the opportunity to redo again.
What's the biggest challenge of being a modern-day CTO?
Sheer volume and the pace of change. Not only the constantly evolving threat landscape, but also the opportunities that technology is presenting itself within organisations.
And the most rewarding thing?
Being able to meet the objectives of the business, and really becoming an integral part of the strategic direction of the organisation.
What is the biggest mistake you think you’ve made? And your greatest success?
Professionally speaking? Even the mistakes I have made I have learnt something from, so I suppose you could say that the mistake was a valuable lesson and therefore not something I would avoid if given the opportunity to redo again.
