Sheet-fed duplex scanners are usually hefty desktop affairs, but the Canon ImageFormula P-215 is small enough to slip into laptop bag. Julian Prokaza takes a look.
Usefully, the CaptureOneTouch application stacks scanned images as they’re made, so it’s possible to preview and save 40 individual images from 20 duplex scans as a single multi-page PDF.

Unique filenames can also be automatically generated to make saving sequentially scanned documents as individual files as speedy as possible, and scans can be automatically attached to an email, sent to an application, or uploaded as a Google Documents or Microsoft SharePoint file, too.

The ImageFormula P-215 is very quiet in use and while it isn’t particularly quick when compared to a dedicated desktop scanner like its ImageFormula DR-C125 sibling, scanning speed is more than adequate for the small stacks of paper it’s likely to encounter in daily use.
In our tests, a 10-page duplex scan took one minute 53 seconds in our tests (5.3 pages per minute), but switching to high-speed mode only shaved 20 seconds off this time (6.2 pages per minute), which suggests that the scanner can manage with a single, laptop battery-saving, USB 2 connection just fine.
