Google is rolling out a cloud-based record management service to enterprises, enabling them to store and access critical information from anywhere.
The Google Apps Vault will allow businesses to store and search data from Gmail and on-the-record instant messages. Information can be filtered by terms, dates, senders, recipients and labels to increase accuracy and save time.
Business can add the Vault to their Google Apps account for an additional cost of $5 per user per month.
Enterprises would typically use the Vault when they wanted information to assist with internal investigations, meet compliance requirements or for the purposes of litigation, explained Jack Halprin, head of eDiscovery at Google.
"E-discovery can be part of virtually any litigation and requires you to search, find and preserve your electronic information such as email," he noted on the Google Enterprise Blog.
"Vault helps protect your business with easy-to-use search so you can quickly find and preserve data to respond to unexpected customer claims, lawsuits or investigations."
Google Apps Vault will initially be available in the US and Latin America. Business can add it to their Google Apps account for an additional cost of $5 per user per month from today.
Google has confirmed that the service is expected to arrive in the UK in the coming weeks.
