Skype clears McAfee for VoIP scanning
By Iain Thomson,
Skype has awarded a Skype Certified badge to security vendor McAfee for its latest range of software.
McAfee Internet Security Suite 2006, McAfee VirusScan 2006 and McAfee Personal Firewall 2006 have the certification, which shows they have been tested on Skype software. MacAfee's code allows files being sent via Skype's file transfer system to be scanned before they are installed on the target computer.
"We have over 113 million customers and we want our community to use their computers in the safest way possible, which includes having virus protection," said Kurt Sauer, Skype's chief security officer.
"Skype is already very secure, and McAfee's products are complementary, securing the rest of the PC environment."
McAfee's software has no effect of the voice content of the call, which is already encrypted.
