    CA boosts virtualisation management suite

Unicenter ASM r11.1 lets organisations move computing resources around more efficiency

By Rene Millman, 28 Nov 2006 at 11:32

CA has boosted its centralised management suite Unicenter to support virtualised and clustered networks.

The new version of its Unicenter Advanced Systems Management (version r11.1) allows organisations to balances workloads in complex environments that include clusters and virtualized platforms.

If the performance of an application begins to slow down and more memory or processor capacity is required, the application can automatically reallocate available resources to that application. The software can also move low-priority applications to a different server if more capacity is needed.

By letting organisations virtually move computing resources around, the application can increase efficiency and overall usage of clusters.

Analysts said that as data centre virtualisation grows, enterprises will "wind up with virtual environments that incorporate technology from multiple vendors".

"Vendor-neutral solution will therefore become essential for keeping data centre operations running smoothly," said Andi Mann, senior research analyst at Enterprise Management Associates.
