For the last couple of days my AVG 8 has been popping up saying “Invalid update control CTF file”. It doesn’t give any more info. I ignored it for a bit thinking it may sort itself on the next update, it didn’t. So tonight I had a look round AVG, tried updating manually, and a few more things. I didn’t really find much, lastly I did a search for *.CTF files. I found two, both were located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\avg8\update\download.

I deleted both the files, told AVG to update, and in come the past few days updates.

So today I was helping some friends sell their car on ebay, my sister was also there. Just as we finished putting the car up, my sister said “Oh you’ve got to do that haircut thing on Arron!”. Cue the slight worry. “OK” he says, “Sit down, and close your eyes…” Forget worry, I was now panicking!

I was reassured it was just a laugh, and not to panick. After they repeated that four or five times I reluctantly agreed.

It turns out that it was a sound file he had on his phone, that you have to listen to using headphones (not the speaker) and close your eyes while listening. I admit this does sound quite dodgey, and I know what your thinking;

“OK. 30 seconds of really quiet talking and then it screams in my eye, and I look stupid for jumping”.

Well that’s not it, it’s actually a very clever little sound clip that I’m sure will impress most people (there’s always some who simply won’t). I did a google search, and YouTube have it.

Have a listen, but don’t use speakers, use headphones, you’ll be glad you did.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IUDTlvagjJA AND CLOSE YOUR EYES!

Let me know what you think…
