My Michael Jackson blog post
By Asavin Wattanajantra in Editorial
Posted in Michael Jackson, feed, news, Twitter, Facebook on
It was getting late and I was surfing around the web on my Macbook as I usually do, and suddenly i picked up a few tweets that concerned Michael Jackson…
It was probably the first time I’ve really been involved in using social networking to see up a news story progress to such a degree. I’ve written before on the power of social networking when it came to events in Iran, I’ve used Tweetdeck to pick on the odd news story, and I’m in charge of looking after our Twitter feed.
But yesterday was different. It was TMZ.com that first picked up on Michael’s death at 5.20pm, and it took a while for the internet to fully comprehend and confirm that he did indeed die.
Of course it was Twitter that had the buzz as people tried to figure out what was going on from various news tweeters, and Twitter users used each other to find out what was actually going on.
As confirmation and more info came out then Facebook started to get buzzy as people I knew suddenly came out with real-time status updates about how they felt about what was going on and commented one each other’s statuses.. Exactly what Facebook was looking for when it first implemented real-time.
Then it was the news websites like Guardian and BBC, which you couldn’t help notice seemed very behind, as of course it’s easier to come out with a one-line statement than to confirm and write copy, especially that late at night.
Being the security hound for IT PRO I also noticed that the security tweeters were also coming out with their usual ‘beware of Michael Jackson spam’ - before they actually came out with confirmation of his death!
I’m not naming names and I’m not your biggest MJ fan, but I thought that was a little low. Maybe wait a bit longer to push your anti-spam agenda? In my head it seemed they were doing exactly the same thing - trying to promote themselves on the back on somebody’s death.
Anyway personal feeling? I felt sadder when Heath Ledger died because he was young and it was like potential was snuffed out. Michael Jackson had his time and we will always have his legacy. Of course, any death is tragic.

2 good albums followed by living the life of a scooby doo villain - what a legacy.
Whats interesting is how within the space of half a hour all the top trending topics on twitter were MJ related and soon after death of Jeff Goldblum rumours started to spread. Events in Iran were suddenly forgotten and the fail whale started appearing on the site. Twitter actually disabled searching for a period so that it could cope with the load. sickipedia obviously couldn’t cope either, its still down ![]()

This was a singer, an “entertainer”. One of limited insight, profound lack of worldly experience concern or interest and questionable morality. He neither saw, recognized or worked for any cause or issue beyond his own pathetic self interest. The death of Mr Jackson is no loss for our world.

Michael Jackson’s service is on Tuesday, 7/7/09 at the Staples Center in Downtown, LA at 10 a.m. I truly think that the City of Santa Barbara should allow Michael Jackson’s final resting place to be in his Neverland Ranch. It’s not everyday that people are burring loved ones in their backyard. Michael was a humanitarian, an amazing human being, a larger than life icon, and he did a lot for the city of Los Olivos, CA, since Michael took residence there. I think the government in that City should make an exception to the rule and make that happen for Michael Jackson. They need to put all their racial issues aside and stop being difficult with this matter at hand. It’s befitting that Michael Jackson’s final resting place be at the Neverland Ranch. It was Michael’s dream. He deserves it!
Though we only have a short time until next Tuesday, Michael’s fans throughout the world should all get together and petition to make this dream a reality for Michael. The Neverland Ranch should be Michael’s final resting place. Some rules are made to be broken. This is the one time that the Los Olivos/Santa Barbara City Government (Indian Reservation People) need to stop being difficult and make the change to grant Michael’s last resting place to be at the place he created and love so much…, The Neverland Ranch.
Please call the City of Santa Barbara/Los Olivos, CA authorities and tell them in full force to make a change. We fans globally can make a difference. We must be strong and persistent. Here are their contact information:

Please call them…, HURRY – we don’t have much time. Together, we could make a change and make good things happen for Michael Jackson. It’s time to UNITE and get some old rules changed.

What a HUGE influence on the Top 40 in the 80s. I’m old enough to remember when the Jackson 5 left Motown. I was saddened and thought they were done. Then came Destiny, a pleasant surprise to my record collection, and then he BLEW UP!!
I loved EVERYTHING he did all thru the 80s. In the 90s, I was less inspired by his music but he still had hits I liked.
If the story ended there; if MJ was just about the music and mainstream celebrity then I would get the hysteria. All celebrities get the kidglove retrospective free-pass in death and who would have been more deserving? But the guy paid millions, probably HUNDREDS of millions to settle out of court.
He fit the pedophile profile to a T as claimed by legal experts and psychologists. MJ said himself in the interview about how “loving” it is to share your bed with a 12 year old boy.
“Can’t we just honor his music? Remember the good things he did?” Al Sharpton said last night (7/2) that Elvis and Frank Sinatra got the free passes, why not Michael?
The answer is even the most immoral in our society (convicts, Mafia) keep a shred of our moral codes: don’t abuse kids.
No free pass. The world’s children are this much safer.

I am a new singer/songwriter. I wrote this song in January, as if I knew we would lose some prominent people this year. The chorus came to me as I attended the funeral of a 14 year old girl who died of cancer. Her life was short, but we are all put on this earth for purpose. MJ will be missed.

Michael Joseph Jackson was born August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana, an industrial suburb of Chicago. The son of African-American parents Joseph Walter “Joe” Jackson and Katherine Esther Scruse, he was the seventh of nine children. His siblings are Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Randy and Janet. Joseph Jackson was a steel mill employee who often performed in an R&B band called The Falcons with his brother Luther. Jackson was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness by his devout mother. Joseph Jackson has an additional daughter named Joh Vonnie Jackson who is actually the youngest sibling of Michael Jackson. The family lived at 2300 Jackson St., near Roosevelt Park; Michael often reflected that he wanted to play with neighborhood children but was rarely allowed because of the incessant rehearsals demanded by his father.

Jackson had a notable impact on music and culture throughout the world. He broke down racial barriers, transformed the art of the music video and paved the way for modern pop music in his own country.

On June 25, 2009, Jackson collapsed at his rented mansion at 100 North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles. Attempts at resuscitating him by his personal physician were unsuccessful. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics received a 911 call at 12:22 p.m. (PDT), arriving three minutes and seventeen seconds later at Jackson’s location. He was reportedly not breathing and CPR was performed. Resuscitation efforts continued both en route to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, and for an hour further after arriving at approximately 1:13 p.m. (20:13 UTC). He was noted to have been in cardiac arrest by the paramedics who attended him at his house. Jackson was pronounced dead at approximately 2:26 p.m. local time (21:26 UTC). Rumors and news of Jackson’s death broke web records, triggering a cyberspace traffic jam and creating severe traffic spikes to websites such as Google, Facebook, Twitter and Wikipedia. Vigils were held by members of the general public after the death.

I was a massive fan as a kid and had ‘Man In The Mirror’ on a loop. I moved away from ‘Michael’ music when the controversy hit but a massive fan I met at uni got me back into his stuff. I made a short animation tribute a week or so ago when he died. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW_OyMelxDg

Ugg boots (sometimes referred to as uggs or ug boots) are a style of sheepskin boot, with wool as the inner lining and a tanned outer surface worn by both men and women. Ugg boots often have a synthetic sole, although this is not universal. Uggs have been identified as a fashion trend for men and women since the early 2000s. In late 2008, Ugg boots grew again in popularity with men as male celebrities were seen in them.
