That’s all fine and dandy except for the glaring fact that J Allard has repeatedly and adamantly insisted that their will be no Zune phone. The last thing they need is a bunch of pissed off partners again, like with Zune and playsforsure.

I agree, there are several key flaws with the iPhone 3G, least of all the terrible battery life and the fact it gets hot enough to fry an egg on the back of it.
The smartphone market is still wide open, but the window of opportunity for a new player or new device to enter the market and clean-up is closing fast.

Microsoft is fine with 2nd or 3rd place and the smartphone market is still in its infancy. Microsoft would make a few people angry but making their own Zune phone is smart.

jz wondering but why is MS always switching markets? MS first tried to establish themselves on the music-market by releasing a counter-part of the iPod Touch. They screwed up and now they are looking to attack Samsung or Palm on “their” market? 
Hmmm … well time will tell but maybe it might be smarter to remain on one market and try to establish a product. Samsung tried it and they released a couple of bad products but their latest device really looks interesting. Dunno how they’d name it but it looks really interesting. P3 or P4 or w/e
