Apple, the PT Barnum of the IT industry has managed to get tongues wagging again with the announcement of a forthcoming special event, where new products will be announced.
As usual, there is no pre-event confirmation of what will be announced, but the timing of the event coupled with external factors such as the age of certain product lines and stock shortages give us a pretty good idea of what users can expect.

The Skypephone, a product collaboration between Skype and mobile phone network 3, was our surprise hit mobile of 2007. Alongside the iPhone, it was the phone we recommended the most from all the products released last year.

One thing is certain this year; the technology sector is going to be busy.
2008 is going to be a landmark year, with several technology shifts on the horizon and companies set for fierce competition as the tough trading conditions in countries such as the US create problems for the more blinkered hardware, software and services companies that have failed to look behind their home market. Those that see the bigger global picture will be stepping up their efforts to grab market share or establish a foothold in emerging markets such as China, Eastern Europe and parts of Africa.

Today’s news that Motorola’s current chief executive Ed Zander will step down from the role in January came as little surprise.
After enjoying monumental success with products such as the RAZR V3 mobile phone, the company has struggled for the last two years to find its next big thing. Attempts to do different phone alongside the V3 have struggled, and the V3 itself could only be reinvented so many times before it too became stale and dated. Read more
