Sounds good! Hope your bonus is big enough:-)

I’ve been thinking about a system just for upstairs that will attach to my NAS drive so I don’t have to leave my PC on. Alternatively, a good set of speakers that I can attach to my mp3 player (NOT iPod). See anything on your journey?

Well, the big issue with systems that attach to NAS is they are generally a pain to use as the interface on the player is awful - Sonos being the only exception I found that is reasonably usable.

The Squeezebox is the best alternative to the Sonos in my opinion - it does require a PC to be on however. Alternatives I looked at are the Roku Soundbridge - which does do Internet radio when the PC is off

Myself I would look for the speakers for the mp3 player as you say! The Dabs website has some reasonable speakers - but in reality a trip to richer sounds may be better… a small mini system nowadays has better speakers than a normal dock in many cases, and almost all decent ones you can plug in a mp3 player into aux (or a usb stick and play mp3’s straight off that).
