I friend I met up with last week does not have Broadband at home via DSL or Cable. Nor do they use Wifi. They actually use a Vodafone 3G Datacard, providing 3Gig of data a month for a monthly fee.

All the UK carriers now I believe are doing some form of 3G datacard - but finally with decent usage limits (1 Gig being a minimal usable level per month) - and all for varying fees. The above example, in my friend, pays

I’d love to find a way of getting access to e-mail and the internet in a useful way without paying through the nose for it. I watched a video advertising the Nokia N810 showing all the wonderful things you could do with it out and about - yeah right. Not where I live. Not without selling my soul/children/PS3 :-)

It’s about time the companies started offering better value for money in todays supposedly online lifestyle. Working from home/being a student I’d often want to go to a local cafe for a working lunch just for a change of scenery. But without being able to access the internet there’s not really that much point for me. Goodness, even our campus hasn’t got wi-fi!

I also know a friend who has recently got a three usb modem for his laptop as he cannot get a broadband line in his home and therefore must use dial up (the thought of that just depresses me) from what I’ve heard he finds it very usable, I have never experienced wifi in a coffee shop or anywhere like that and to be honest never would want to - I would rather get a dataplan for my phone and hook that up to my 770 or laptop - much easier and I would have a bit more movement available to me - from that aspect I think that coffee shop wifi is already dead.
However I like Mcdonalds stance of free wifi - now that I could get used to, I haven’t used it yet but I’m sure if there was a small coffee shop next to a Mcdonalds I would! - the Mcdonalds environment isnt quite right for surfing the net but if there was seating nearby I’m sure I’d like it :)
