Cheap Weddings

I am horrified at the money people spend on weddings. Call me an old Scrooge if you will but it seems such a waste, and more importantly such a pressure on newly marrieds. Sex, money and relatives are supposed to be major topics for dispute in a marriage and a “big” wedding certainly covers two of those (”money” and “relatives” or you are doing something wrong).

I get spammed by lovemoney and it is a worrying thought that I actually responded to some of their spam - I clicked a link in an email, they’ll know it’s me and send more & more :-(

However, a blog on how to have cheap but lovely wedding seemed a good idea.

If it’s any encouragement to other “Scrooges” , our wedding was certainly on the cheap side but we have stayed married for the last 28 years which is more important than whether the invites were on hand pulped paper :Q

I’m not sure how IT can help with this but ideas are welcome. And no I don’t think an on line wedding would be a good option - though a web cast for guests who can’t make it would be OK!

What to share with your co-workers…

Over at http://msn.careerbuilder.co.uk/Article/MSN-218-Workplace-Issues-10-Things-Not-to-Share-with-Your-Co-workers/?sc_extcmp=int_ukmsn_a218hp&ocid=today&SiteId=int_ukmsn_a218hp&ArticleID=218>1=62500&cbRecursionCnt=1&cbsid=49fc9a1790634a1ca9a4da1fc886799d-291203692-wk-6 they are telling you “things to never share or discuss with your co-workers ” even though “some of your colleagues you even count as real friends”.

What kind of sad half-people are these? You shouldn’t discuss “Personal problems / Politics or religion / Intimate details” with co-workers even though they are “real friends” as you might be “risking your professional image”.

I think I’ll take the talking to friends and stuff the “professional image” thanks all the same.  Friends, happiness, mental health should all rate above career.

Mind you, not boasting about your salary / binge drinking / drug taking on facebook is good advice - however if you need to be told that I doubt your “professional image” is going to be much good anyway…

Hmmm, maybe I should be getting paid by the BBC as my blog seems to be turning into  a series of adverts for them but I have to tell you about the other nights “Analysis”.
If you’re worried about having your brain re-wired by internet use this is a must - but I have to tell you the whole nature of the brain is to re-wire itself to it environment so it is not suprising but maybe not beneficial.
Anyway, if you deal in information or information technology it’s worth a listen - and the brilliant thing about the radio is you can probably do some work whilst you listen (although the program will tell you can’t…).
Listen again should be here http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p002bxdm/Analysis_12_03_2009/ as it was broadcast yesterday but it isn’t - maybe there were two “analysis” programs yesterday? (Hah! Advert for the BBC? Not if they’re making it so confusing! Get it right guys!)

Facebook makes member listings public

Excuse me but aren’t they only making the listing public (ie available to search engines) if you have your profile set to public - ie anyone can log on to facebook and search for you? And you have a month to ask them not to. If you have your settings to private (people can’t access you from a facebook search) they won’t publish your details(*) to google et al.

They aren’t crossing any privacy lines here, just making it one click easier to find people - you can search from google rather than from facebook.

Have I missed something or is lovely old
