Take That, the rejuvenated 90s boy band, are gearing up to play Wembley again in July…

This news will no doubt excite all the fans from way back when (yes, I was one of them) as well as the new bunch of followers from the second time around, but the concerts also offer a little something for tech heads too.

Solo artist Gary Go plans to go on stage as Take That’s support act armed with nothing but an iPhone as backing for some of his time in the spotlight.

He’s already penned some tunes making use of an app on the device and now, for at least some of his support songs, he’ll ditch musical instruments or a backing band in favour of his shiny iPhone.

“I think it’s pretty amazing that I’m going to be using a mobile phone on stage at Wembley Stadium in front of so many people,” he told the Evening Standard in an interview. “My biggest worry is that my phone will ring mid-song.”

Google Earth and Australian alphabet soup

What do you do when you’ve got spare time on your hands?

When the amount of spare time in question is six months and you live in Australia, the answer may well involve an intricate project focused on the alphabet and Google Earth.

Yes, you read that correctly. A 30-something graphic designer from down under spent half a year searching out Google Earth images with the aim of creating a montage of the pics that doubles as the alphabet.

“I found them exactly as you think I might have. Slowly moving from page to page over the maps and visually scanning,” said Rhett Dashwood, the man behind the slightly bizarre but very pretty project, in an interview with the Telegraph.

“I put some simple restrictions on my project, like sticking to my home state of Victoria and not manipulating (rotating or Photoshopping) the images in any way. There were no short cuts to finding them, but I did sense patterns emerging the further I searched which helped to guide how long I spent looking in particular areas.”

It’s all a little pointless, but quite stunning nonetheless don’t you think?

Susan Boyle: web of success

Britain’s Got Talent has a lot to answer for.

Often, it’s the auditions we tune in to, just so we can laugh at the poor, deluded souls whose friends and family are either too nice to say they don’t have any talent, or perhaps too cruel to save them from public humiliation.

But every now and again, these reality shows strike gold. And they’ve done it again with Scot Susan Boyle.

She appeared on stage to sniggers but they soon disappeared and turned to awe once she opened her mouth and starting single I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables. Her voice was stunning and she, naturally, won the praise of judges Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell.

Since then, Susan has become somewhat of an internet phenomenon. Stats suggest that clips of her warbling have now been viewed on the web more than 100 million times – a figure that is growing considerably all the time.

It’s yet another example of what the power of the internet - coupled with talent, of course – can do.

Susan’s also been the subject of less admirable advances. It’s rumoured that an adult film company has tried to offer her $1million for a starring role in a porn film.
