Don’t Panic!

The most popular request for inclusion in Transmit is the ability to slow it down, according to ‘Les’ who always answers queries to Panic Inc, Transmit’s developers. Transmit is an excellent FTP program for Mac OS X and winner of many awards.
Why would anyone want to make software slower? Simple, Transmit grabs all the bandwidth it can get because when we were bandwidthly challenged, we all wanted to send and receive files as quickly as possible. Nowadays, lines are often shared between a work group and file sizes are much larger. If one computer has hogged the lot, it can lead to a workgroup of pissed-off people waiting to send and receive.
We emailed Les to see what can be done about it and he told us it is the thing Panic get asked for the most. Currently there is no solution but they are working on it for the next version of Transmit. Jumping at the chance to get some inside information we wondered what else is due to be included. Les told us that Transmit will become a lot faster with a brand new UI plus many of the features people have been requesting for a long time. But Transmit is keeping their cards close to their chest and Les would say no more.
In a nutshell, Transmit will become a lot faster, a lot slower, look completely different and probably cost a lot more to upgrade. In the meantime, if we run Fetch and Transmit together, Fetch slowly grabs bandwidth from Transmit.
