My phone keeps ringing

Unfortunately the wrong sort of calls.
Since I started up my new business and registered with the correct authorities I have been getting many more calls. Calls from those trying to sell me advertising space in whatever publication they work for. Calls from companies who can help my business, for a fee naturally, to get more clients. Calls from mobile phone companies who want me to know how good a deal they could give my business.
Now, I like a nice chat with new people, but this is getting ridiculous. I’m running out of polite ways of saying ‘please, I’m not interested at the moment, don’t call again I’m busy’.

Sharon, are you interested in advertising in…hehe…only kidding!
When I put in an ISDN line at home (remember those) a few years ago I made the mistake of connecting a multinfunction fax device to it. How on earth do these people even know you have a fax machine?
Have you signed up with the telephone preference service?

Since the recession really hit, say about 2 months ago, those junk phone calls seem to have trailed off. Apart from Yellow Pages and Thomsons, the others have stopped ringing, especially the web listers.
But then, so have the junk emails too. Come to think of it, so have my clients. Hmmm, maybe the recession is as real as they keep saying.
Need any books designing?

Oh you two, you are so funny
I thought about the TPS Jason but was worried about losing that one phone call that may turn out to be a really good thing.
I think my main gripe is that I think ‘oh, could this be a client’ and then it isn’t and I am disappointed.
You design books Mark? I’m attempting to write one so you never know.

This is the Canadian Sharon here..In Canada we have a national Do Not Call list. You can put your business phone, cell phone, home phone on it. It takes 30 days to take effect. By law, marketers are only allowed to call people NOT on the Do Not Call List. Exceptions include political parties when elections are happening (and when AREN’T they happening these days in Canada), and companies with whom you have already done business.

Perhaps you should lobby your MP’s for something similar if you don’t already have it.

Thanks Canadian Sharon
We do have something similar but I’ve a sneaky feeling most are getting my number from our local Chamber of Commerce where I’m a member.
