My hubby was his usual wonderful self this Christmas - he bought me a Sony Reader.

I’ve been thinking about one of these since I saw my brother’s but it was on my ‘when I win the lottery’ list. I couldn’t believe it when I opened the wrapping on Christmas morning.

Currently I’ve only downloaded some ‘classics’ that came on the accompanying disc and some PDFs that I hadn’t got round to reading. The PDF I have read so far was OK, there is sometimes a problem when there’s pics & diagrams etc apparently. I am well into reading ‘Emma’ by Jane Austen and find that, occasionally, I will try to turn the page rather than click the button - it’s that good to read. I haven’t suffered any eye strain and it’s lovely to hold - not too heavy - and the button placements mean I can turn the page with either hand. So dipping into the chocolates with my right hand means I can still turn a page with my left - so much for the diet huh?

My parents got me a different case for it. One of the first things I said to hubby was I wish the case it came with wasn’t brown (yuck, I hate brown). So I now have a ‘Tuff-luv’ case in pink that incorporates a stand so I can continue my bad habit of reading at the dinner table. There’s room for memory sticks too but I have a 4GB SD card so can’t see me wanting any more.

Gripes - I wish there was a ’search’ facility (there may be I suppose but I haven’t found it yet). Also, the screen flicker as you ‘turn’ a page can be annoying but it’s only akin to turning a page on a book and a pretty small gripe in contrast with my happiness.Biggest gripe - it’s USB charged which means that I have to have laptop on and it’s over £15 for a mains charger! That’s a bit of a rip-off in my book (pun yeah).

However, gripes aside, I do like it and can see me carrying it around everywhere as I love to read. Not sure whether I’d buy a new ebook rather than paperback but I will be catching up on all those classic books out there in the free domain that I have been meaning to read but never got around to it.
