Internet suckers

I just received yet another email hoax. May I ask what benefit there is to making people email 8 (or more) of their friends to receive personal happiness, wealth, good fortune or (in this case) a free laptop?
The latest one was for a Sony Ericsson laptop and came, like many that I receive, from a fairly intelligent source. When will people learn to at least Google emails like this before sending them out to everyone in their address book. That’s what I did. I mean if it sounds too good to be true…
At one point I used to reply to the sender with a link to the hoax explanation but it didn’t seem to make much difference.
So, again, why???
What to these people have to gain? It’s not for money as far as I can see. It’s not for fame as the email is obviously created anonymously in the first place. Is it just for the secret glee that their creation is clogging up the tubes?
Whatever it is is wish they’d stop it y’hear - whoever it is better stop it.
