Ok the progress so far…
I had two tasks,
1) Upgrade Exchange 2000 to 2003
2) Install new Domain controller in new site

1 down 1 to go…

Upgrading Exchange was one of the easiest things I have ever had to do with a Windows server. The most complicated thing I had with the upgrade was the licensing (as usual with MS). Even that wasn’t difficuilt just took a bit of time getting my head round it.
The thing was we brought Exchange some years ago with Software assurance (SA), this meant we was eligable for upgrades. The SA had expired and I just wanted to make sure we had the upgrade available to us befored the SA expired. When I checked the Eopen website from microosft all it had for the exchange server was “Windows Server”. So once I had figured the licenses out (and yes we was covered!) it was on the upgrade.
After a backup of everything in exchange I inserted the CD.
Up comes the exchange setup dialog box, click deployment tools and tell it this is my 1st Exhange 2003 server. Up comes a very helpfull checklist with all the things I need to do, each step has some comments a tick box to say completed, and if applicable a link to run the tool.
Forest prep, Domain prep, and a few checks later the install is complete.
The management of 2003 is very simular to 2000 so configuring the new options was easy.
I have managed to get my XDA exec to sync with the server over 802.11g wireless network. But currently I haven’t got push email going, although I haven’t spent much time on this.  I plan on doing this soon though as it’s a very helpfull tool when on the move!
But first I need to get the new server installed, I’ll keep you updated!
