For the last couple of days my AVG 8 has been popping up saying “Invalid update control CTF file”. It doesn’t give any more info. I ignored it for a bit thinking it may sort itself on the next update, it didn’t. So tonight I had a look round AVG, tried updating manually, and a few more things. I didn’t really find much, lastly I did a search for *.CTF files. I found two, both were located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\avg8\update\download.

I deleted both the files, told AVG to update, and in come the past few days updates.  All is ok now with AVG, so if you have the same problem give the above a go.

If you’re not sure about deleting the files, you can test it by renaming them.
