My Ideal World (or house)

I believe I could be the saddest of all geeks, however I also believe that I’m not alone, I have often thought of what my ideal house would be in the future (when I’m rich, famous and boss of a big company) I thought as a bit of proof of my geekiness I’d write some thoughts down:

  • I’ll start with waking up, this would of course normally be done using a normal alarm clock however in my future tech home it won’t be a normal alarm clock, it’ll be a networked sound system programmed to come on a certain time so I can wake up to my favourite radio station or tunes from my library. The curtains would also open at this point automatically (leaving the blinds shut too - what a clever idea!).
  • After waking up I’d need to brush my teeth etc but I don’t just want to brush my teeth, I want to catch up on a bit of TV or read some updates on my rss feeds (from itpro of course) - this would be done either in my mirror or lcd in the bathroom (whichever looks better).
  • Getting dressed would be as normal but in a house like this - the wardrobe would be automatic, finding the clothes I’d chosen and bringing them to me.
  • For me the first cup of tea of the day is important so this would have to be made automatically before I get downstairs so that its ready for me to drink - automated kettle or something I’m sure. Whilst drinking my tea in the kitchen or lounge I’d like to check my emails before work so I think I better do that using the screens built into the surface of the counter or coffee table - touch screen would be necessary.
  • After all this fun I’d have to go to work so I’d have to jump in the car (which will start playing songs from my vast music collection so I have my favourites with me) using the big display I’d be able to choose what songs I’d like for the journey and also program the sat nav - I know where I work but just imagine if the sat nav picks up on some traffic problems! - I could get stuck in a traffic jam and that wouldn’t be funny.
  • Fast forward a couple of hours and its the same process on the way home and then get in to watch a bit of recorded tv on the big screen tv in the lounge (plus surround sound and reclining chairs). This could be followed by some gaming etc. Then pretty much repeat this process of lazing around on the recliner until tea, then back to laziness and then bed - mood lighting in the bedroom may be needed.

Has anyone else got any good ideas for what can go into my tech house? - I suppose trivial things like automated heating, air conditioning, lighting and security would be there but what other quirky things could I have? (Please comment)

I’d be woken up to music with news feeds and e-mail headers between songs - the sound would follow me around the house as I got ready. I would be able to say whether I wanted to hear news/mail now or save for later. Those I’d save for later I could check out on the TV,listen to in the car or wait til I sat at my PC with three large screens (e-mail/browser/work). I also want to be able to tell the music what style or band I want to listen to (a la Star Trek) My car, like yours would have music but no satnav as I don’t travel that far lol. I do want your lounge/gaming room though! I’m not too fussed about automated curtains, lights etc but voice activated might be nice.
