Windows 7

I realise that every blogger under the sun is going to be blabbing on about Windows 7 for a long time to come after the first public beta has become available over this weekend. Being the Windows fanboy that I am I have already jumped on the bandwagon. I was lucky enough to pick it up easily yesterday afternoon, it downloaded in a nice time and I installed it, first on a virtual pc and when I discovered that wouldn’t cut it for properly playing with it I installed it on another partition I already had, the dual boot works perfectly as it did before so I’m very happy.
Unlike Vista the difference between its predecessor and Windows 7 seems to be behind the scenes rather than appearance. The taskbar is different - using icons rather than text to identify running programs, the Notification area in the bottom right is now a lot les cluttered as it lets you control what appears down there with a bit more accuracy.
The Start menu is very similar to Vista only making a difference to ordering and not much else. There is also a new feature called ‘Homegroup’ which I’m yet to explore as it requires more than one pc running Windows 7 from what I can gather its used to make home networking a tiny bit easier by setting passwords for access etc.
Apart from that and the different wallpaper I havent noticed many appearance differences … oh wait ..

Paint looks different!
Now using a different layout for the tools Paint has a few more pretty features which is a welcome change.
Performance however is much better - It seems to be running a lot more smoothly than vista did, and thats coming from someone who loved Vista at all costs!
Download Firefox … please!

Right, I’ve made the jump and installed Vista SP1 - and well…. it took ages! - I suppose I was warned, I didnt time it or anything but boy did it take longer than I thought it might, ah well, its installed now and just like I thought - I cant tell - yet.
I’m hoping that it’ll bring me advantages in transfer speeds, so I shall update on that in the future hopefully ![]()
