Office 2007 boo boos

As much as I cannot afford the time I am going to have to reinstall Office 2007 before I go crazy!!

I got hold of the Ultimate Steal offer from Microsoft as I am a full time student, Office 2007 for under £40. I’m sure they have ulterior motives but, as I was getting a Vista laptop, I thought I might as well go the whole hog and upgrade everything.

Problem 1 - compatibility with previous versions. But I did know about this so was prepared and accepted it.

Problem 2 - it tells me it can’t find documents when I try to open them from e-mails or on my pc, and then promptly opens the file it’s ‘magically’ found.

Problem 3 - and the MOST annoying. Whenever I shut down an Office program it tells me that  a) the program has stopped working. Duh! I just closed it down myself. b) it’s trying to recover my information. Info I don’t want it to recover as I’ve finished with that particular document c) the program is restarting! But I want to close it…

Each message box has a cancel button but if I’m not quick enough Word (or whatever) reopens and I have to go through it all again.

No idea why it’s started doing this but it’s now driving me crazy. It’s assignment time at college so I’m using Office, Word especially, a lot.  I’ve had a quick scan of the forums at MS but nothing useful comes up.

Suggestions gratefully received - may even go back to Office 2003 (Student & Teacher edition) even though I quite like some of the new features of 2007.

I don’t know what you’ve already tried but, the first place I’d try is ‘Microsoft Office diagnostics’.

The Student deal certainly is a great offer! If you’ve got deadlines looming then I would recommend you go back to a version that works for you - you can always give Office 2007 another go when the pressure is off!

Arron - ran diagnostics but still got the same problem (grrr)

Jason - I might just do that but I’ve realised I’ll have to make sure my newer docs are readable lol
