Lollipop technology

Mmm, what flavour I hear you ask? Well I’m not talking about those kind of lollipops.
Apparently there is a plan to put cameras in the lollipop signs in order to catch those who vent their road rage or ignore the crossing wardens. You can read about it on the BBC website here
It’s about time something was done as it seems that drivers are becoming more aggressive and less likely to stop for these people. On two occasions in the last few months I’ve seen drivers totally ignore the lollipop lady and drive straight passed them as they stand in the middle of the road allowing children to cross; one time I witnessed a driver in front of me deliberately or accidentally drive past the warden and nearly hit a young girl who stepped backwards just in time to avoid the collision - and the driver didn’t even stop. On another occasion and elderly lady driver totally missed the warden standing in the middle of the road and nearly ran into a mother pushing her young child in a buggy.
Speaking to our lollipop lady this morning she said it’s often difficult to get number plates; their main priority is getting children (and adults) across the road safely and this often precludes them from writing down the necessary information. Perhaps this use of technology may help catch reckless or inattentive drivers and make crossing the road safer for everyone.
