Still a ‘Happy Heron’

Just an update on what else I’ve discovered…
My Sony TH55 PDA synched without any problems - there’s a Palm synch thingy already there when you install Ubuntu and I took all of 5 mins to set up and synch with Evolution mail. I still haven’t managed a full synch with Vista (OK I will concede that I haven’t looked into what the problem is but still, there were no problems at all with Ubuntu).
I had a few minutes spare the other day and thought I’d try setting up my old Epson R200 printer with Ubuntu. I looked around the forums and found some help but thought I’d just plug the USB in and see what happened. Well readers, the darned thing worked! No drivers, no CDs, no problems.
So now I have a great set up on Ubuntu for my personal stuff with my Vaio being used for work. However, once I’ve checked out some more open source programs for web design, photoshopping and so on I’ve a feeling I may be leaving Microsoft behind.
What do you think? Would it be possible to be a professional but only use open source?
