What I can (not) afford

Besides my IT and web design work I also write - as in poems, stories etc.
I don’t want to always be sat inside typing away but I don’t want to have to lug around my Vaio, weight and candy for thieves being my two main concerns.
So, I’ve been looking at the Asus EEE as something that will potentially fit in my handbag (it’s a biggish one lol) that I can take to a local coffee shop or pub or even on the sea-front and let creativity take me over.
I must say I do like the look of them but I am feeling that I want the biggest and best (running linux obviously) but the price range is now getting way, way out of my reach for those. Has anyone out there had much experience of one? Are they worth it or are the cheaper models just as good for my needs?
As an alternative I’m interested in the Acer Aspire One that’s coming out in a few weeks. No real reviews out yet though. There’s a pink one of those due out later in the summer too. Well if I’m going to get something that small and cute I might as well get it in pink, though purple would be preferable.
Anyway, it’s a bit of a moot point at the mo unless I get tonnes of mulah for my birthday. It’s the end of July if anyone’s interested.
