General Electric wants to boost collaboration among 300,000 staff by shifting them all onto Microsoft Office 365.
The cloud suite will be rolled out to GE's workforce in 170 countries, after the firm's IT department picked 365 for its ability to work across devices and platforms.
Teams will be able to work on the same document at the same time with real-time document co-authoring, while GE will also deploy Skype for Business for group calls and meetings.
Office 365's open APIs mean GE will be able to connect mission-critical applications to the set of productivity tools, too.
IT can also use 365's security capabilities to provide employees with secure access to company information on a number of devices while satisfying GE's own security policies, as well as industry regulations.

Neither party confirmed the cost of the deal nor how long the roll out will take, though IT Pro has asked for more details.
