Oracle will certify support for Windows 10 on its Database 12c by October, it has confirmed.

The company will release versions of its latest database for Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise and Education up to three months after Microsoft released its latest operating system on 29 July.

A 32-bit version of Database 12c will support both a 32-bit model and 64-bit model of Windows 10, while a 64-bit database will be able to run on the 64-bit Windows 10 OS.

However, Oracle warned in a Statement of Direction: "As Windows 10 is a client operating system, some Oracle enterprise server features, such as Real Application Clusters, are not supported."

But the next major release of Oracle Database 12c will also be certified for Redmond's operating system, with detailed installation information to be available under My Oracle Support.

Windows 10 had captured 4.87 per cent of the global OS market as of yesterday, as recorded byStatCounter.

But according to the IT Pro Panel, most business users shouldn't begin to download it for a few more months as Microsoft continues to patch bugs, meaning Oracle's aim of supporting Windows 10 come October should not cause a significant issue for enterprise or SMB users.
