Evernote launches Evernote Context for enhanced note-taking

Evernote has announced Evernote Context, an expansion of its service that will provide a third-party content feed and other features alongside its classic note-taking functions.

As people use the app to take notes, Evernote Context will suggest additional content relevant to what they are looking at in the moment. This could be other documents on the device, files from a group of co-workers (for Evernote Business users) or content from other apps and web sources.

The Enterprise Discovery feature even finds out who in the company might know more about the relevant subject than the user, simply by scanning old documents and notes of various connected accounts.

If you mention someone specific in a note, also, Evernote Context will search for them on LinkedIn and pop up with all of their relevant information.

In a blog post, Evernote writes: "Good research happens in three phases. You recall what you know. You consult with someone. You search external sources. We're applying our machine learning and augmented intelligence expertise to present you with all three research phases automatically, at the moment you need them, without ever leaving your workspace."

Evernote has been working with sources including LinkedIn and News Corp. in order to provide this service to its users, TechCrunch reports.

CEO Phil Libin said: "The idea is whenever you are working in Evernote, you're not doing it in a vacuum. You're not opening up a blank page. Evernote is finding information that is most actionable to you right now."

Evernote already has features such as Related Notes, which works in much the same way by searching for similar documents while you are creating a new one, but Evernote Context will seemingly boost this up a few levels.

Users will be able to add content from the articles and web pages that are brought up by Context, making Evernote far more contextual than before. The move combines popular features of word processing, social media and news aggregation all into one place.

"This changes how you interact with business news," Libin adds. "We've tried to make the writing experience across all our clients really polished. Evernote wants to be the best place for writing."

Evernote is reportedly planning to launch Evernote Context before the end of November.
