IT Pro Rating Price: £14,726 Company: Canon Review Date: 28th Apr 2008 Verdict: A desktop scanner which can handle up to 60,000 pages a day at up to A3 is never going to be cheap. Canon's ImageFORMULA DR-X10C, though, has been designed to automate ways of dealing with most of the problems that might occur.

Verdict: HP's L2245w isn't the cheapest 22in on the block, but it does offer great performance for the cash, with a great picture, flexible stand options, including pivot function, and a business-like and smart design.

Verdict: Protecting your databases takes effort and there's no escape from that. It will obviously take investment of money, time and effort to install and learn software such as DbProtect, but once you've made the investment you'll be in a much better position to secure your valuable data.

Verdict: This A3+ colour laser has consumables which go the distance, is quite quick, particularly when printing duplex, and can be expanded from workgroup to near departmental status. Versatile and reasonable quality print make it a good proofing tool and its competitive pricing completes an attractive package.

Verdict: If you need a scanner which can convert large numbers of documents from single or double-sided pages to electronic media, the ScanJet N8460 does it with skill. Whether in manual or batch mode, the well-chosen software works alongside a carefully-engineered scanner mechanism to deliver high quality scans and OCRed pages.

Verdict: Canon delivers a lean, mean printing machine that's capable of taking on all your business printing, faxing and copying requirements. Speed and quality are impressive, running costs are low and it offers essential print security plus tons of upgrade options.

Verdict: Lasers beware as HP introduces a new high-speed inkjet printing technology. Print speeds are below par but the CM8060 delivers top output quality, very low running costs and a quite remarkable level of features.

Verdict: Somehow the 8800 doesn't have the visceral desirability of the Pearl and it doesn't have WiFi or 3G. But with GPS and a QWERTY keyboard it's undoubtedly a more capable business device, especially if you want a BlackBerry with a full keyboard.

Verdict: This is a series tool for serious database management. TDM9 is much easier to use than any other transformation tool on the market. It just lacks the sophistication in the toolset that is becoming commonplace even in commodity database products.

Verdict: This is a great product. It does what it says on the box but could be a little easier to work with. EMC needs to revise the documentation, make installation components clearer and ship a proper SMB licence.
