Microsoft Surface 2 4G release date announced for UK

Microsoft has announced the availability of its Surface 2 4G tablet in the UK.

The second-generation tablet with high-speed mobile connectivity will land in the UK on May 8, although pre-orders opened yesterday (April 10). It will be priced at 539.

The 4G option is only available on the consumer-focused Windows RT edition of the Surface 2 tablet rather than the Surface 2 Pro, which will come as a blow to those hoping to use Microsoft's newest tablet as a remote working tool.

The Microsoft Surface 2 4G is available to buy from the Microsoft Store and high street retailers including Dixons.

The 4G-powered Surface 2 ships with 64GB of onboard storage and will retail at 539 - 100 more than the Wi-Fi only version. There's no information on whether Microsoft will launch the 128GB Surface 2 with 4G capabilities as yet.

The Microsoft Surface 2 was announced in September last year, alongside the Pro edition.

"We improved the performance on this product by 20 per cent, if you thought it was fast before it is lightning fast now," Panos Panay, vice president of Surface at Microsoft said at the launch.

"It is the most productive, professional tablet in the world," he added.

Microsoft's Wi-Fi only Surface 2 went on sale a month after the announcement alongside the Surface 2 Pro which is retailing for 719.00 for the 64GB version, up to 1,439 for the 512GB variant.
